Consistently one of the best-reviewed properties in the entire Tsavo West area, Severin Safari Camp earns near-perfect scores from guests, with several describing service on par with, or better than, top hotels in Nairobi or Mombasa. Twenty-one octagonal tents with thatched roofs sit in a landscape of traditional African furniture and warm colors, each with mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms, and private outdoor seating, and the camp is unfenced, with Maasai warriors escorting guests to and from their tents after dark for both safety and atmosphere.
A nearby waterhole draws elephant, zebra, antelope and even crocodile into view from private terraces, and lion and hippo visits near camp are common enough that guests regularly mention them as a trip highlight. Just a 30-minute drive from Mzima Springs and close to Poacher’s Lookout, the camp sits well positioned for exploring the best of Tsavo West.
