Named after the flat-topped Acacia tortilis trees that shade the property, Tortilis Camp sits in the private Kitirua Conservancy on the edge of Amboseli National Park, not inside it, which is exactly what makes it different. Because the camp operates on private land rather than park boundaries, guests can go on guided walking safaris and night drives, activities not permitted inside Amboseli itself.
The camp was one of Kenya’s first eco-lodges of its size and runs entirely on solar power, genuine sustainability credentials rather than a marketing line. Its seventeen makuti-thatched tents sit spaced generously across a hillside, each with a private veranda framing uninterrupted views of Mount Kilimanjaro, widely regarded as among the finest in East Africa, especially as the light softens toward evening.
What to Expect
Game drives and walking safaris. Both inside Amboseli National Park and across the private conservancy, including guided bush walks and night drives, options most Amboseli properties inside the park boundary can’t offer but we can.
Dining. A main lounge, bar and dining area built from natural materials, plus private bush dinners under the acacias on request.
Facilities. A pool, spa with massage treatments, and an outdoor fireplace, all run on solar power.
Good for. Couples and honeymooners drawn to the setting and the Kilimanjaro views, and travelers who want more than standard game drives, walking safaris and night drives add real variety to an Amboseli stay.
