Amboseli is already known for its ground-level views of Mount Kilimanjaro, but a balloon safari gives you something no game drive can, Kilimanjaro at eye level, with the whole Amboseli ecosystem spread beneath you. It’s a genuinely different perspective on a park you may already know from the seat of a safari vehicle.
The route below is a guide. Game-drive times, stops and accommodation are tailored around your dates and selected park.
Pre-dawn pickup takes you to the launch site just outside Kimana Gate, in the foothills of Kilimanjaro itself. After pre-flight snacks, coffee and a safety briefing, the balloon lifts off around 6.00am, climbing quietly over wetlands, open savannah and the plains below, where buffalo, zebra, giraffe and, on occasion, lion are visible from above.
The flight lasts about an hour or hour and a half, ending with a champagne breakfast at the landing site and a commemorative flight certificate signed by your pilot, a nice keepsake alongside the photos.
This is an add-on to your Amboseli safari, not a standalone trip. Let us know your accommodation and dates, ideally a day in advance, so we can arrange your pickup to the nearest launch site.
