A hot air balloon safari is the one Mara experience that shows you the reserve from above rather than from a vehicle. Floating silently over the plains at first light, you get a genuinely different view of wildlife and landscape, lion prides, elephant herds and the open savannah spread out beneath you, with the basket drifting wherever the morning air takes it.

Pickup from your lodge or camp happens before dawn, typically between 4.30am and 5.00am, for the transfer to the launch site. After a safety briefing and watching the balloon inflate, you lift off around sunrise for a flight lasting roughly 70 to 90 minutes over the Mara ecosystem.
On landing, a champagne toast is followed by a full bush breakfast, cooked and served right at the landing site, in the open plains. The experience wraps up with a scenic game drive back to camp, usually by mid-morning, leaving the rest of your day free.
